- Gardenia is a genus of flowering plants in the coffee family, Rubiaceae. Known for their exquisite fragrance, gardenias are popular ornamental shrubs that feature waxy, creamy-white flowers and glossy, dark green leaves. They are highly prized for their beauty and sweet scent.
- Kleims Hardy Gardenia is set apart by its cold hardiness, heat tolerance, and unique ability to adapt and grow in full sun, along with the bounty of medium-sized, single, pinwheeled, daisy-like flowers. It retains the classic, sweet, perfumed fragrance and long bloom cycle that begins in the late spring and lasts through mid-summer typical of the species.
- Care: When plants are mature and ready to be set out, select a lightly shaded to full location taking care to transition into full sun locations slowly, plant in fertile, well-draining, acidic soil; water as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture, feed a good-quality, bloom-boosting fertilizer with the initial planting and annually in the Spring. Prune lightly and often after flowering.
- Indoor Growing: Gardenias are not recommended for year-round indoor culture. Potted plants can be brought indoors briefly to display and enjoy the blooms, but they should be returned outdoors afterward.
